Job Summary:
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Director of Financial Reporting plans, directs and controls the preparation and analysis of key financial data used for external reports and internal management reporting. This position is responsible for developing internal fiscal controls including the management of cash resources.
Duties:
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial information for senior management and external reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of reporting. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Preparation and analysis of financial statements
- Preparation, implementation, reporting, and updating of annual budget process
- Analysis of budget variance including regular reviews with senior management
- Financial forecasting
- Preparation and analysis of management and general rate, indirect cost rates and other related overhead rates to ensure maximization of reimbursement.
- Ad hoc projects and analysis to support the senior and executive management
- Oversee and assist in the preparation of: annual audit, A-133, surveys and other reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain internal fiscal control processes and procedures as they relate to the financial reporting area to ensure accurate and timely preparation of reports in compliance with financial reporting and disclosures.
- Lead process improvement initiatives as they relate to the financial reporting area.
- Monitor new accounting pronouncements and developments especially as applicable to the non-profit social services sector.
- Assist in the management of cash resources.
- Act as a key person for external auditors to facilitate quarterly reviews and annual audit processes.
- Develop relationships with various departments and work with contacts to understand variances and trends as well as working knowledge of key business drivers
- Train accounting and Agency staff on fiscal procedures, as necessary.
10. Prepare and manage the Finance department budget.
11. Complete special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Master’s degree in finance, business or related field, or CPA preferred
- Three to five years’ experience in public accounting or internal audit experience
- Three years’ experience in a senior position as a Senior Financial Officer
- Mastery of financial analysis and competence in technical accounting issues, proven ability to communicate high level financial issues
- In-depth knowledge of advanced accounting principles that must quickly be applied to new business situations with little or no direction
- Strong understanding of GAAP especially non-profit
- Knowledge of automated system and financial systems
- Knowledge of Great Plains Financial System (a plus)
- Knowledge of Forecaster Budgeting System (a plus)
- Knowledge of financial reporting (FRX)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong change management and process improvement skills. Ability to analyze and recommend business process improvements to improve accuracy of financial reporting
- Strong time management skills and multi-tasking abilities
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment within Finance as well as with other departments
- Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
